Weight gain can mean a few things. Genetics, lifestyle, diet, stress, and well you’ve guessed it - hormones. As women approach menopause, estrogen level decreases which can lead to more fat gained and muscle loss. Reasons being:
Menopause shifts fat storage to the stomach, resulting in the dreaded belly fat AKA the ‘meno-pot’
Hormonal changes during menopause is linked to slower metabolism and may spark hunger, leading to higher caloric intake
Menopause can result in higher levels of insulin in your blood, causing the body to store more energy from your food intake than normal
But know this, these changes are completely normal and there are certainly ways to manage the weight gain caused by menopause (as impossible as it seems).
